Day Eleven
Today was a good day, overall. We are still keeping the pace relatively easy since I cannot push any sort of decent gear, but we managed to cover 78 miles today fairly comfortably. We’re finding a rhythm that helps us beat the really hot, uncomfortable part of the day…leave by 6AM, take a small break here and there until around noon, eat some lunch, nap and dick around until 4ish, then finish out the last 20 or 30 milez. Going to bed at 8 or 9 seems crazy but is totally necessary to make things work well.
Tonight we’re staying out in the sticks of southern Illinois, at a nice little campground that’s super cheap and run by a super laid-back and friendly native american dude. Tomorrow we hit Murphysboro, then Missouri on Thursday, where we have a couchsurfing connection (woo!) in Farmington.
In conclusion, today was our last in Kentucky, which will be fondly remembered (minus the dogs and the misery of day nine), as well as our last crossing of the Ohio. We lucked out on the rain today, hopefully tomorrow will go as well. Probably not, but whatever.
OK, I’m entering my headphones and slumberland,
T.
